Portraits inspired by Laura Williams

Laura Williams is a photographer that produced a set of pictures using mirrors. One of her most best known photographs is called “Invisible and is that of a girl holding a mirror that totally obscures her torso and the way it has been manipulated suggests the girl is see through and has no torso as we can see the background through the mirrror.

The image made me think of identity and self perception. A mirror can represent truth by showing us how we appear on the outside. But in Laura’s photos they create distortion hiding parts of the body we don’t want people to see. Things we keep private or struggle to express.
