Portraits inspired by Alberta Alicata

Alberta Alicata is an Italian photographer known for his striking and creative collages. In some of his work he creates fake magazine covers, featuring the key features of the face with heavy make-up on and then prints these off ready to use in a second photoshoot.

In the second photoshoot the same model has less make-up on and is styled differently and the fake covers are carefully lined up to the match the face to create these striking images. I think his work questions how the media shapes the way we see people.

It made me think about how people’s identities are made up of different parts - some that are shown on the outside and some that are hidden.

This idea of exploring identity through layered collages links to my theme of “Inner Worlds” and so I wanted to try the same effect.
